I never imagined building my first house will be so nightmarish and that too just because of some greddy and dishonest people in the building industry. Last week everything seemed so simple and dreamlike i was advising everybody on how to build a new house but now i think i am the most foolish person to build a new house.
We started somewhere in January this year after the govt.'s announcement of of first home owners grant. Found A beautiful area, baught a piece of land and started looking for a builder to turn our dreams into reality. Signed atender with Rawson Homes (excellent sales service) the sales agent waited in the car park for 2 hrs for getting the contract signed(inspite of our telling himethat we wont be available today). but thats how the sales people work.
Signed the contract in July, got the DA approval in September and thats when the real story starts.
As we are building to take advantage of first home owner grant so we are pretty tight on our budget but our builder gave us a piece of shocking news only a week away from construction he called up to say that your house price has been raised by $14000 without any explanation (only applicable to our house not to any other he was building in that area). He pretty much knew by that time we are literally stuck with him but this a sheer act of blackmailing and dishonesty. their act may be legally wrong but is an example of pure greed and manipulation.this is just the begining and then yesterday we got another call from their manager that there has been another calculation mistake and we are looking at another 5K for the same.We told them its not our responsibility to pay for their mistakes he told us in simple plain words that instead we had been dishonest with them for not telling them about the miscalculations .
Is there any law in place where the first home owners like us can be saved from the dishonest and greedy practices of theses builders.
